Commercial Driver’s License Training

Through the help of valued partners, CCHE was able to launch the first Commercial Driver’s License Training in Cook County, MN in April 2022. This ongoing program aims to address the need for school bus and truck drivers in our region and respond to the federal government’s new requirement that all CDL applicants attend a qualified course before seeking certification. Class A Training

What is a Class A Commercial Driver’s License?

Class A: any vehicle towing a unit of more than 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) with a gross combination weight rating (truck plus trailer) over 26,000 pounds.

About the Program:

  • Zoom Orientation
  • 1 Month of Online Learning
  • 1 month later 5:30-7:30 pm In-Person Class
  • Behind-the-Wheel Instruction in Cook County (40-50 Hours)
  • DOT Physical
  • 5-Panel Drug Testing
  • Written Exam in Cook County (not included in the course)
  • Behind-the-Wheel exam in Two Harbors (not included in the course)
  • May 2023 Cohort Schedule

Qualifications Include:

  • Age 18+
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Legal to work in the United States
  • Proficient math and reading skills
  • Ability to pass DOT Physical
  • Ability to pass 5-panel Drug Testing

Class B Training – Bus Endorsement

What is a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Bus Endorsement?

Class B Bus Endorsement licensed drivers can drive a passenger bus. The skill test must be passed in a bus with a GVWR greater than 26,000 pounds and a passenger capacity of more than 15, including the driver.

About the Program:

  • Zoom Orientation
  • 1 Month of Online Learning
  • 1 month later 5:30-7:30 pm In-Person Class
  • Behind-the-Wheel Instruction in Cook County (25 Hours)
  • DOT Physical
  • 5-Panel Drug Testing
  • Written Exam in Cook County (not included in the course)
  • Behind-the-Wheel exam in Duluth
  • May 2023 Cohort Schedule

Qualifications Include:

  • Age 18+
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Legal to work in the United States
  • Proficient math and reading skills
  • Ability to pass DOT Physical
  • Ability to pass 5-panel Drug Testing
