Commercial Driver's License Training

Through the help of valued partners, CCHE was able to launch the first Commercial Driver's License Training in Cook County, MN in April 2022. This ongoing program aims to address the need for school bus and truck drivers in our region and respond to the federal government's new requirement that all CDL applicants attend a qualified course before seeking certification. Class A Training

What is a Class A Commercial Driver's License?

Class A: any vehicle towing a unit of more than 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) with a gross combination weight rating (truck plus trailer) over 26,000 pounds.

About the Program:

  • Zoom or In-Person Orientation
  • 1 Month of Online Learning – Class Completion and 80% Grade Required
  • In-Person Class – Behind-The-Wheel Practice Prep in Cook County, MN
  • Behind-the-Wheel Instruction in Cook County (40-50 Hours) based on Instructors Schedule
  • DOT Physical in Cook County, MN
  • 5-Panel Drug Testing in Duluth, MN
  • Written Exam in Cook County, MN or Duluth, MN (not included in the course)
  • Behind-the-Wheel exam is based on exam date availability and instructor/truck flexibility (not included in the course)

Qualifications Include:

  • Age 18+ when attempting written exams
  • Legal to work in the United States
  • Proficient math and reading skills
  • Ability to pass DOT Physical
  • Ability to pass 5-panel Drug Testing
  • Proof of Residency
  • Live in Cook County, MN

Class B Training – Bus Endorsement

What is a Class B Commercial Driver's License with Bus Endorsement?

Class B Bus Endorsement licensed drivers can drive a passenger bus. The skill test must be passed in a bus with a GVWR greater than 26,000 pounds and a passenger capacity of more than 15, including the driver.

About the Program:

  • Zoom or In-Person Orientation
  • 1 Month of Online Learning – Class Completion and 80% Grade Required
  • 1 month later 5:30-7:30 pm In-Person Class
  • Behind-the-Wheel Instruction with ISD 166 in Cook County, MN
  • DOT Physical in Cook County, MN
  • 5-Panel Drug Testing
  • Written Exam in Cook County, MN or Duluth (not included in the course)
  • Behind-the-Wheel exam is based on exam date availability and instructor/bus flexibility (not included in the course)

Qualifications Include:

  • Age 18+
  • Pre-Approval from ISD 166 Tom Nelson
  • Legal to work in the United States
  • Proficient math and reading skills
  • Ability to pass DOT Physical
  • Ability to pass 5-panel Drug Testing
  • Proof of Residency
  • Live in Cook County, MN
