Critical Reading of the News and Other Media Webinar
May 12, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm CDT
This lecture will provide an introductory framework to “reading” the news and other media with a critical lens. Media actors have various roles: as watchdogs for democracy, as knowledge producers, and as professionals with loosely defined norms and practices for conducting their work. However, each of these roles, practices, and norms are not stagnant, but are sites of contestation within the current political and technological landscape. By illuminating the underlying social constructions behind news production, this talk will inform participants how to view the media not only as a text, but as a socially-embedded cultural product.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Webinar.
