“An Introduction: Stories of the North” will be an overview of the importance of storytelling. Most importantly, we will talk about how the stories we tell shape our perceptions of who belongs to a place, and who belongs in our communities. Storytelling is power, and one way humans have exerted power over others is by controlling the stories we tell about who we are and how we came to be. Telling everyone’s stories not only gives us a more accurate picture of the world; it also helps to address systemic power imbalances.
Sharing of stories matters – creating a more inclusive, accurate, and more vibrant, picture of the place we call home.
